From Coin World April 30, 2008 : "The U.S. Mint estimates that approximately 47,000 Uncirculated 2008-W American Eagle .999 fine silver dollars bear the reverse type for 2007."
The reverse type is most easily distinguished by the appearance of the "U" of "United States." Coins with the reverse of 2007 will have a bowl shaped "U." Coins with the reverse of 2008 will have a "U" with a spur on the right side of the letter. Other noticeable differences include the configuration of the stars and the tilde and spacing between the worlds "Silver" and "One."
This is sure to become the "Key" date for the ASE set. The U.S. Mint stated that 47,000 of these error coins were minted, however the U.S. Mints number is looking to be much higher than what was really minted and shipped to the public. As of 11/29/2011 NGC has recorded 7473 coins submitted for grading. Grades range from MS (Mint State) 67 through MS 70 (3451 coins graded as a perfect 70).
These Z8F error coins are in the U.S. Mint original packaging (Not picked over) and shipped via USPS with insurance at no extra cost to you. This means that Picture ID and Signature will be required for pick up from the USPS as is the case with most of our high end coins.
